Apr. 1--Three years ago, Weld County ranked No. 1 in fatal crashes in the state with more than 90 traffic deaths. In 2006, the county took a dramatic turn in reaching a 10-year low, with less than half that many deaths. Cmdr. Kenneth Poncelow with the Weld Sheriff's Office attributes the decline in fatal crashes to community awareness on safer driving practices and more enforcement from law agencies.
