In his introduction to this special issue on the architecture of Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, guest editor Chris Abel examines the complex history an nature of Southeast Asian culture and shows how the interaction of global and local technologies, conditioned by climate and ecology, provides a stimulating vision for 21st century development in a rapidly expanding part of the world.
