An onstage interview of Marty Diamond, founder and president of Little Big Man Booking, by Ray Waddell, executive director of content and programming, touring and live entertainment at Billboard, elicited the following comments by Diamond about live music entertainment.
It's the healthiest part of the music industry these days.
Revenues in North America were $2.8 billion in 2006, up 35%.
Attendance was up 14% in 2006 over 2005, with attendance per show up for the first time after years of decline.
Attendance per show in 2006 was 4,000. The all-time high was 6,000.
Any kid with a band can now get his music out, Diamond said.
