Lilian Faschinger's collection of short stories Frau mit drei Flugzeugen is a welcome addition to her oeuvre. Born in the province of Carinthia in Austria in 1950, Faschinger received acclaim with the publication of her first novel, Die neue Scheherazade (1986), a humorous account of an Austro-Persian woman who refuses to accept expected roles of woman and exotic foreigner. However, her second novel, Lustspiel (1989), disappointed readers with its flat, larmoyant protagonist recovering from the dissolution of a love relationship. Now, with Frau mit drei Flugzeugen, Faschinger proves herself a skilled writer of short stories.
