The Mendocino Brewing Co. of Hopland, CA, has announced the "passing of an era, with the demise of the company's keg-tossing ritual, apparently another casualt of today's rampant liability litigation.
The brewery had sponsored a keg toss (using a water filled 15.5-gallon keg for the men's event and a 7.5-gallon keg for the women's) at its annual July 4th, Anniversary and Octoberfest festivities.
Ironically, the popularity of the various events seems to have doomed the much-loved barrel toss. "With so many people participating," a brewery spokesperson said, "the possibility of injury increased, and liability insuranc was no longer available."
