Article: Rolls to land [pounds sterling]130m BA jet engine deal.

Byline: Karl West

Apr. 2--British Airways is this week expected to award a lucrative [pounds sterling]130m contract to Derby-based Rolls-Royce for eight jet engines, which will power its four new Boeing 777-200 planes.

The Rolls-Royce Trent engines are understood to have edged out rival GE90s in a highly-competitive bid. Sources said BA went for Rolls over its US rival because the British engineer offered a better price, plus a more attractive long-term maintenance deal.

The engines have a list price of about [pounds sterling]14m, but BA will have almost certainly negotiated a discount. They are slated to be delivered in 2009.
