Q: I have a 2003 Polaris 800 XC SP and I would like to put a 136-inch track on it. What is the tallest lug I can run with the stock driveshaft? Also, what gearing and clutching setup would you recommend with this new track?

A: A 2003 Polaris 800 XC SP will accept a track with lugs up to 2 inches tall, but the lugs must be notched to clear the heat exchangers that also serve as tunnel protectors. Though your sled will take a 2-inch lug, we recommend against it. Deep lugs offer great traction for acceleration, but they tear up snowmobile trails that clubs work tirelessly to maintain.
