The Dane County Board on Thursday became the first governing body in Wisconsin and one of the first in the country to ban the sale and use of coal-tar sealcoat products.
On a voice vote, the board approved the ban on coal-tar sealants, which are used to protect asphalt driveways and parking lots, but have been found by the U.S. Geological Survey to contain higher levels of carcinogens than asphalt-based sealcoat products.
