It's 2 a.m. in the Kirchner household in Bellevue, Tenn. Mom Samantha, six months pregnant, rolls over and pats restless 1-year-old son Doron as Adelia, 4, pads into the room and crawls under the covers. Soon, everyone is still and dreaming.
At 7:30, Doron begins to stir; everyone climbs out of the family bed: Samantha, Doron, Adelia and dad Matt.
The Kirchners are not the only family enacting this scene on any given night. In some households, co-sleeping is considered an ideal way to bond; for others, the nightly migration of children into the master bedroom is accepted out of exhaustion.
