Apr. 10--GUILDERLAND -- A thief robbed the poor box on Easter Sunday, leaving a local church struggling to feed Albany's needy children.
Someone stole an estimated $2,000 from Victory Christian Church's two collection boxes at Crossgates Mall on Sunday. The money was supposed to go to the church's program that provides free hot meals for children.
"They literally ripped the top off the boxes," said Pastor Charlie Muller, who has collected money at the mall for three years for his J.C. Club.
The club, based at a facility on Quail and First streets, serves 70,000 meals a year to kids, Muller said.
