Dear Paul: I'm a long-time listener to your radio program. Several times I have heard you say that radial tires should be rotated only on the same side. I remember that when radials first became popular, cross-rotating was not recommended.

The reason being that the steel belt would walk out of the sidewall if the direction of rotation was reversed. The owner's manuals for my 1995 Regal and 2000 LeSabre show a cross-rotation pattern. Are the manuals incorrect?

I'm not trying to be a smartie pants. I have a $500 set of tires that are about due for their first rotation and I don't want to make a mistake.
