Apr. 11--A manlift toppled backward Tuesday, trapping a construction worker between its basket and the trunk of a parked car and breaking both his legs at the shins.
Firefighters made 14 cuts to the basket with a reciprocating saw and an Amkus cutting tool in order to free the man, said Capt. Bill Graham, of the Morgantown Fire Department.
"He was working on soffit/fascia work," Graham said of the victim. The machine's boom was extended when it fell.
"We don't know what caused the unit [manlift] to fall, but his legs got caught under the handrail and the bars fell onto his legs, on the roof of a car."
