Apr. 12--Another predicted snowstorm is drawing deep sighs from bird watchers who want to enjoy spring, not endure another bout with a winter that refuses to end.
Predictions for snow and accompanying cold have put a chill on birding activities, said David Bonter, an ornithologist and project leader of Project Feeder Watch for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
Local watchers aren't spotting the usual crowd of migratory species heading north, Bonter said. Most birds are sitting out the cold spell in the Carolinas, held back by north winds, he said.
Early arrivals such as tree swallows are facing a rough spring.
