Apr. 12--Many Berks County residents have probably never heard of Wallace Stevens, the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet born in Reading in 1879.
But Stevens' name and his works should get a little more recognition now that the state has approved a historical marker in his honor.
The marker probably will be placed in front of 323 N. Fifth St., where Stevens was born.
The idea for the marker came from Charles J. Adams III, a WEEU radio personality and Reading Eagle columnist. Adams helped organize last October's Greater Reading Literary Festival, which focused on Stevens.
