Electrical workers repeatedly exposed to strong electromagnetic fields may run a greater risk of rare brain cancer, according to the largest health study of American utility workers ever done.
The study, which appears in the current American Journal of Epidemiology, looked at deaths in a group of 140,000 electrical workers at five large utility companies _ including Peco Energy Co.
The study found 144 deaths caused by brain cancer _ about 50 percent more than would have been anticipated. It also found that as the workers' exposure increased, so did the risk.
