PHILADELPHIA--Jan. 9--Yo! Joe's back. That's the message Joseph W. Ortlieb wants Philly-area suds aficionados to hear. And he's buying radio advertisements to get the word out.
He's hoping to help Ortlieb's, the beer created by his grandfather and known to many Philadelphians as "Joe's Beer," stage a comeback. And, in a way, he wants to make up for selling his family's legacy, along with the brand.
"When I sold the Ortlieb brand, by the time the ink was dry, I thought it was a mistake," he said. When Ortlieb closed the Henry F. Ortlieb Brewing Co. in 1981, he also closed the last family-run brewery in Philadelphia.
