Returning the national parks to their former glory should be a national priority. With less than ten years until the 100th anniversary of the National Park System, the Administration has proposed, and Congress is now debating, a budget that could go a long way toward accomplishing this.
The Administration's budget proposal includes a laudable $258-million increase to national park operations and appropriately launches the National Parks Centennial Initiative, announced by Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne last August.
