Port Angeles: An Apology
The wild rum cigarillo dropped atop the grave
of Raymond Carver was not mine. Nor did I do
anything but watch as a hefty Cuban urinated off
the cliff at Ocean View Cemetery. Were Dali to paint
my visit through your town, I would be butterflies--
not a winnowing stream of yellows and oranges,
but three small ones lost somewhere behind trees,
a blur of motion shading early sunbeams. The Red
Lion Inn hosting the 2005 Sasquatch Convention
could not serve me adequately--I have never collected
petrified droppings from the forest floor, nor have I worn
