Apr. 17--TOKYO -- INAX Corp., a major Japanese housing and prefabricated bath maker, said Tuesday it failed to announce seven out of eight cases of malfunctioning by its bidet-toilets reported since 1985.
The company reported all the cases, in which the devises emitted smoke or caught fire, to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry but failed to announce to the public the type of machine involved in the seven cases as it could not specify the cause of the incidents, the company said.
It said it decided not to make the announcement to avoid giving consumers "unnecessary worry" over its products.
