Apr. 18--La Crosse County supervisors peppered Xcel Energy officials with questions about the French Island plant at a meeting Tuesday.
The county and Xcel have a contract through 2023 to turn solid waste into energy, which reduces the amount of waste going to the county's landfill by about 80 percent.
One of French Island's two boilers failed a dioxin test in August 2006. The problem was caused by a leaking steam tube, which was discovered during the test and repaired. The boiler passed the same test two weeks later.
