Why do most American families select disposable diapers for their babies? Health care procividers can be influential in the decision, but rarely are.
If diaper selection is not discussed with new parents, then most use disposable diapers. Over 60% of parents who selected disposable diapers listed convenience as their main reason. If parents were counseled by their doctor or the hospital nurses, they were more likely to consider environmental factors in their diaper choice.
The advice given by doctors and hospitals are known to influence many parental behaviors: breast vs. bottle feeding, the use of auto safety seats, etc. To this list we can diaper ...
