Apr. 18--SUNRIVER, Ore. -- The nation's leading travel segment to watch -- culinary tourism -- could fuel an emerging niche for the tourism industry in Central Oregon and statewide, according to a national authority who spoke at the state's annual tourism conference Tuesday.
Oregon is the nation's third most recognized state for wine-related travel, said Suzanne Cook, senior vice president of research for the Travel Industry Association of America in Washington, D.C.
She cited a 2006 study of more than 2,300 leisure travelers who were traveling to experience food and drink more than 50 miles from home.
