Apr. 19--LASVEGAS,N.M. -- The day finally arrived. It was the one where the hometown watched its hero say a final thank you, and make good on her word to leave.
Leaving is not about forgetting, though. Not for Vera Jo Bustos. Not for her community ofLas Vegas. Bustos, and Las Vegas, have shared memories that won't erase anytime soon, that will keep replaying even after she moves to Alamosa,Colo. The day came Wednesday.
