I read with interest the Forum pieces by Martin Goetz (May, p. 8) and Christopher Stone (August, p. 6) regarding object-oriented technology. As someone who has significant experience in implementing real-world solutions and has been on both sides of the "object wall," I thought my opinion could add to the drama.
Based on my experience, Goetz is correct in his assessment that object-oriented (OO) programming will fail when used to develop mission-critical applications. To back up this opinion, I will address some of the arguments put forth by both Goetz and Stone.
