About four years ago, I heard the news nobody wants to hear: I had an advanced-stage liver disease and, without a liver transplant, it would be terminal.
I was devastated. I had lived a healthy life for 48 years, hardly ever needing to see a doctor, and now I was told I was dying.
My immediate reaction was to investigate liver transplants to see what was involved in obtaining one. The data showed that because demand is greater than supply for organs, I had a slim chance of living long enough to get a transplant.
