Apr. 22--It's six o'clock on a Thursday. The regular crowd shuffles in. There's an old man sitting next to Ray Williams, makin' love to his tonic and gin. Actually, he's drinking whiskey, but who's quibbling. He's a regular at the Regency Lodge's piano bar. And Williams knows him only as Larry. Several evenings each month, Williams spends three hours perched behind a black baby grand in the hotel's lounge.
"He says, son, can you play me a memory? I'm not really sure how it goes. But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete, when I wore a younger man's clothes." But Larry, who's around 70, knows how this song goes. He requested it ...
