Apr. 22--Crystal Diaz arrived in blue and gold.
She departed black, bloodied and blue.
The remaining Demonettes didn't fare much better.
Diaz, the sophomore third baseman, had the nail ripped off her right middle finger. Later, she took a one-hopper to her chin.
"Most players would back off after something like that," said Steph Langstraat, Santa Fe High School head coach. "She's not like that. She's all-around tough."
Diaz and the Demonettes had to be.
