Yes to the public service obligations (PSOs) on air routes linking Sardinia to the Italian mainland, but subject to conditions opposed by Italy. This, in short, is a summary of the European Commission's decision on 23 April to authorise the introduction of PSOs on 16 air routes linking Sardinia's three airports to the principal airports on the Italian mainland (see box). In the past, Italy imposed PSOs on only six routes between Sardinia and Rome and Milan, whose operation was attributed to the airline companies Alitalia, Air One and Meridiana.
