The environmental-friendliness of a house is a key factor for buyers according to research from the Nationwide, although the lender itself still has no plans to offer a 'green' mortgage.

This follows in the wake of last month's Budget which appeared to show the chancellor backing energy-efficient homes over green mortgages, as well as mainstream rival HBoS announcing that it would be bringing an environmentally-friendly mortgage to the market in the next 12 months.
