A WEOLEY Castle man has helped save the lives of more than 1,000 people after he paid for an ambulance to be shipped to one of Africa's poorest countries.
Bob Powell sent the former British Red Cross ambulance to the Gambia as part of his charitable work for the Gambia Schools and Health Project which he set up more than a decade ago.
Now, on a return trip to the country, Bob was told that the ambulance has allowed 1,401 people to be transported from villages across the country to the Royal Victoria which is the only hospital in Gambia.
