WALES: We have lost touch, admits Hain.(News)

WELSH secretary Peter Hain yesterday admitted the Labour leadership had "lost touch" with voters.

The cabinet minister believes reform is badly needed to regain the electorate's trust and to ensure they avoid being beaten by a "resurgent" Tory party.

Mr Hain, who is standing for the post of deputy leader, said the post was critical in helping the party to re-connect with its grass roots.

He told the Parliamentary Monitor Magazine: "We at the top of the party and government have lost touch with the grass roots and through them the country in recent times.
