Apr. 25--Tom Filer nearly got mistyeyed talking about prized pupil Kyle Kendrick and the young right-hander's eight-inning masterpiece Tuesday night.
"It was a beautiful thing to watch," the Phillies pitching coach said after Reading's 4-1 win over the struggling Harrisburg Senators at FirstEnergy Stadium. "He was fantastic."
Kendrick, a promising 22-year-old, hooked up in a classic battle with Collin Balester, the Washington Nationals' top prospect. Each gave up first-inning runs. After that Kendrick was nearly untouchable.
