Apr. 26--A new mural modeled on a famous painting -- "Declaration of Independence" by John Trumbull -- sets the scene for a stunning local exhibit: signatures of the men who signed the Declaration in 1776.
In signing the document, 56 men committed treason against the king of England. They risked death, loss of property and hardship for their families.
The Durham Western Heritage Museum has original documents with the signatures of 46 signers as part of its Byron Reed Collection. The signatures are on letters, deeds, affidavits and receipts. Signatures of the remaining 10 signers are on facsimile documents loaned to the ...
