Apr. 26--SAPPORO -- Automotive parts maker Denso Corp. will build a new plant in Chitose, Hokkaido Prefecture, to produce semiconductor products such as sensors for engines from April 2009, Executive Vice President Shinro Iwatsuki said Thursday.
Brisk overseas auto sales and rising demand for electronic parts have prompted the major member of the Toyota Motor Corp. group to build the new plant, Iwatsuki told a news conference in Sapporo, close to Chitose.
Chitose, where an airport is located, has been chosen for the new plant as labor shortages have emerged in Aichi Prefecture where Denso and Toyota are based, he said.
