Studio 54 was known for its glamour, disco music and, of course, debauchery. But many will be surprised that the infamous club and its proprietor, Steve Rubell, helped launch Eric Javits' now 22-year career in accessories.
Javits, then an unemployed Rhode Island School of Design fine arts graduate, began making hats as a hobby. He made one for a friend to help them get past the door at Studio 54. "The lines were so long you had to get noticed," Javits recalls. "Steve Rubell noticed us and we walked right in."
