Apr. 26--SANFORD -- Seminole County residents could be wearing the equivalent of tornado-warning sirens on their hips just in time for hurricane season.
A service that would provide alerts for tornado watches and warnings by e-mail and on electronic devices such as cell phones, pagers and PDAs could be in place by June 1. Seminole County commissioners approved spending $185,000 on it this week.
The service would be part of an enhanced emergency warning system that county leaders pushed for after tornadoes swept through the region Feb. 2, killing 21 people in Lake County, injuring hundreds and causing at least $24 million in ...
