Apr. 29--Conventional wisdom holds that roughly two-thirds of property owners would pay the same or less in taxes after a reassessment, an exercise being considered in Northampton County to bring property assessments in line with current values.
The rest, however, would pay more.
County Executive John Stoffa has floated the idea of a reassessment to make the current tax burden more fair.
Fiscal Affairs Director Vic Mazziotti said the changing values of neighborhoods illustrate the issue.
Neighborhood codes that assigned values to areas in the last reassessment in 1995 may not reflect today's market value. So, ...
