People become sexually aroused through a variety of external stimuli, including auditory stimuli and written accounts. Sexual arousal produced from such stimuli likely requires mental imagery processes that have been investigated in past research. The present study seeks to manipulate the visual imagery used by participants in conjunction with a standard erotic auditory stimulus in order to determine the effects of such stimuli on rates and levels of subjective sexual arousal as predicted from our understanding of underlying mental processes.
