May 1--Col. Everett H. Kandarian was a crack shot. He was an even better horse rider.
But it was "Kandy" Kandarian's ride aboard his favorite mount more than three decades ago that cemented him into American Bicentennial history.
The Hartford cavalryman and marksman died Saturday. He was 89.
"He was a really unusual man," said daughter Fay Kandarian. "He was very loyal to the organizations he was involved in."
Her father, briefly a member of the state police motorcycle section in the 1940s, was a retired chief inspector on jet and rocket engines for United Technologies Corp., where he worked for 39 years. ...
