May 1--COLLINSVILLE -- Nancy Wingfield's daughters wept as a prosecutor described how their mother died.

As she lay in her bed the afternoon of Jan. 2, 2006, James Motes, her brother, walked into the room holding a white cord. She asked, "What are you doing?"

"I'm going to kill you," her brother said.

"Oh, God, what have I done?" she asked, before he strangled her with the cord.

Over the next week, Motes dismembered his 55-year-old sister and hid the pieces of her body so effectively that even police cadaver dogs couldn't find them.
