Every hunter knows the truth of the adage that some days the birds fly ofr you, and some days they don't. Some days the hunting gods smile upon you, and both you and your dog can do no wrong; collectively you are the perfect hunting machine, divinely inspired. Then there are those other days, when far from having given you special dispensation, the hunting gods actually toy with you for their own amusement. You imagine them in the heavens passing around a large bowl of popcorn while they take turns yanking on your marionette strings, whispering subversive commands in your dog's ear, and laughing uproariously at your resulting misadventures.
