I agree that small boats can safely make Southern California's Catalina Channel crossing for all the reasons cited in your response to Christopher Bell's letter to the editor (Prop Wash, September 2006) and your June 2006 editorial ("Risky Business"). While in previous years I've made multiple trips to Catalina from both San Diego and Dana Point in a 22-foot Grady-White Sea Farer, last year I decided to save 100-plus gallons of gas and tow a 17-foot Boston Whaler Dauntless to San Pedro and go from there.
