May 2--George Tenet argues in his new book, At the Center of the Storm, that his famous "slam dunk" comment had little effect on President Bush's decision to launch the war in Iraq. The former CIA director insists the remark has been taken out of context. He has a point -- on both counts.
For starters, Tenet uttered the words in a White House meeting in December 2002, or two weeks after the White House issued its first order deploying troops to the region, 10 months after the president saw the first working plan for the war.
