Many houses only have ridge vents. The ridge vent will not work without the intake vent at the soffit/ eave area. This has been proven by all leading shingle and vent manufacturers and is written on all their packages! All warranties require intake/eave ventilation. SmartVent has been field-tested and Boca ICC Test Lab approved for use in any climate, including the most severe snow climates. The vent is placed under the ice shield and the slit is at a protected distance of 6 inches up the roof.
