May 2--BOSTON -- While Jonathan Papelbon may nearly always pitch like he's one of the immortals, last night he reminded Red Sox fans that he's not perfect.
Oakland 5, Boston 4
And neither any longer is the Red Sox bullpen.
Papelbon had been nearly untouchable in his first nine appearances this season, racking up eight saves while allowing just two hits and no runs in 91/3 innings with five walks and 15 strikeouts.
Last night he blew a save opportunity for the first time this year, surrendering a two-run homer on an 0-and-2 pitch to rookie Travis Buck in the ninth inning that tied the game at 4-4.
