May 4--ALTON -- Intrigued by a city that bears his name, popular Food Network show host Alton Brown cycled into town Wednesday to pay surprise visits to three eateries -- and, of course, to pick up tourism materials on Alton.
"He totally ate up the Alton-Alton connection," said Brett Stawar, president of the Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau. "The producer had been by here in January and said the Alton name really got (Brown's) interest."
However, the host of cable television food and cooking shows insisted on pronouncing the city as he does his name -- "L-ton," Stawar said.
