ST. LOUIS _ After what was considered little more than a minor medical inconvenience grew into a five-week wait, the Cardinals confirmed Saturday that former Cy Young Award winner Chris Carpenter will undergo elbow surgery and miss at least the next three months.
The club made its announcement in a brief news release four days after Carpenter threw a simulated game in Milwaukee and three days before his expected return Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies.
