May 6--On March 5, 58-year-old David Threlfall of Rio Vista was killed when a tanker truck rear-ended Threlfall's minivan at Highway 12 and Azevedo Road, pushing it into the path of an oncoming big rig.
Commuter Kristy Lugo was on the scene just minutes later.
"His car had been cut in half," she said. "I couldn't even tell it was a minivan."
The two semis involved were relatively unscathed, Lugo said. Physically, anyway.
The driver of one of the trucks stood near his rig, "bawling" into a cell phone, Lugo said.
