May 7--RICHMOND, Va. -- Dave Blaney scored by far his best finish of the season when he came home 11th in the 400-lap race Sunday at Richmond International Raceway.
Blaney, whose best finish in eight previous starts this season was a 27th, looked for much more when a gamble on a two-tire pit stop put him in third place behind Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon for a restart with 77 laps to go. Blaney held his ground well, falling back only to fifth, before he slid wide going into turn three and his strategy came undone on lap 372.
His slip created a bottleneck that left Ward Burton and Ricky Rudd looking for room to pass coming ...
