The title of the book is "Sing it Pretty, Willie," and that's what Willie Phelps did. He sang it pretty all the way into his 80s. Country music, sung in a voice that was deep and rich, while his fingers plucked big and gutty chords from his guitar.
Willie died in 2004 at 89. The book, written by Willie's daughter, Bobbie Phelps Beard, is a loving salute to him and to the Phelps Brothers trio. They were Willie and Earl and Norman, three brothers from South Norfolk who were country western music stars back in the 1930s, '40s and early '50s. Norman played the fiddle, Earl played the bass and Willie made mellow with the guitar and the vocal chords.
